No turf racing in Britain or Ireland on Friday and Chelmsford was abandoned on Friday morning as Storm Darcy continues to wreak havoc. The current freeze is now unlikely to relent before Sunday and Newbury’s Betfair Hurdle card has been postponed until Sunday 21st while Warwick’s card has been rearranged for Monday.

Having backed Sergeant Major at Chelmsford I was disappointed that track was forced draw stumps on Friday morning.

In the mile maiden handicap at Southwell today David Simcock saddles two of the five runners and I hope to see the lightly raced five-year-old Dr Jekyll (1.45) make a winning return after almost 12 months off the track since beaten just over 3L over C&D from a 3lbs higher mark this time last year.

The selection – 10/3 with 10bet – cost 350,000 gns as a yearling and is certainly bred for the sand being a son of Scatt Daddy out of a winner on the dirt in America over 7f.
