The big game of the weekend in the Premier League is, arguably, Manchester United’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Monday night. United are unbeaten in their last three visits to Stamford Bridge and did win the reverse fixture at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season 4-0, although that scoreline clearly flattered the hosts given Frank Lampard’s side hit the post twice in a first half they largely dominated.
The last time Chelsea beat United was the 2018 FA Cup Final, but I think they will pick up a valuable three points and cement their place in the top four. United have failed to score in their last three league games and they will again be without Marcus Rashford through injury although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hopeful of having at least one of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba available for selection although Fred and Bruno Fernandes look likely to start against the Blues.
Chelsea are 5/6 are to keep the points in the capital with United 7/2 and the draw 13/5 at BetVIctor. United travel to Bruges on Thursday in the last 32 of the Europa League but I feel Chelsea will get their revenge for their two previous defeats at the hands of United so far this season.
Let’s hope Storm Denis does not disrupt Sunday’s two Premier League fixtures the first of which sees Aston Villa entertain Spurs. Spurs came from behind to win the reverse fixture on the opening weekend of the campaign, but I think they will have to settle for a point against the League Cup finalists who have won their last couple at Villa Park and are fighting for their Premier League lives.
Spurs rode their luck against Manchester City in their last league game and they entertain Red Bull Leipzig in the 1st leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium midweek. Spurs will be just two points from the Champions League places with a win in the midlands and they are 5/6 at BetVictor to pick up maximum points with the hosts 31/10 and the draw at 11/4.
Villa skipper Jack Grealish has often been linked with a move to Spurs and he looks sure to be playing Premier League football next term; but will Villa? Dean Smith’s side began the weekend 4/5 to be playing in the Championship next term and this is a game they will be targeting at least a point from. They will hope Spurs take their eye off the ball given Wednesday’s visit of Leipzig who, at the time of writing, trail Bayern Munich by just a point at the top of the Bundesliga table.
A 1-1 draw at Villa Park is 7/1 at BetVictor and that looks the value from what promises to be a terrific game.
Arsenal have only won six league games so far this season (D13 L6) and have drawn their last four so they will be desperate to pick up maximum points when Newcastle United visit the Emirates in the late kick-off. Magpies’ winger Allan Saint-Maximin can frustrate and is not yet the finished article, but he has got pace, power and a touch of class and he carried his side into the 5th Round of the FA Cup at the Kassam Stadium Oxford last time.
The Gunners will need to be wary of the threat of the young Frenchman, but I expect the hosts to end their current run of draws with a comfortable three points. Arsenal to lead halftime/fulltime is 6/5 at BetVictor and that is the recommendation.
